The apartment was clean and cozy, and well equipped. The check-in process smooth and easy. The position is ideal to get the best from Langhe and Monferrato with multiple vineyards around at walking distance. Absolutely recommended if you want to get the best from this wonderful place, inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage list.

We thoroughly enjoyed our memorable two and a half week stay at Cascina Luisa. As we strolled back from dinner in the nearby village of Calosso on the eve of our departure, we realized how attached we became with this beautiful Piemonte countryside, as if it were our home. The view from every room is breathtaking – many miles of rolling hills flanked by serene vineyards, hilltop villages with church steeples, clock towers, castles, and a backdrop of distant snow-capped mountains.

Our apartment “Bruno” was spacious and clean, with a fully equipped kitchen where we cooked breakfast and some dinners. We were welcomed by the charming local Italian manager who showed us around the property, provided keys, and demonstrated entry/exit procedures. The USA-based owner emailed a detailed instruction guide with helpful photos about climate controls, electricity, communications, Wi-Fi access (fast and free), first aid kit, etc.

The owner kept in touch via text messages to assure our satisfaction and offered suggestions for restaurants and wineries. We were able to reach some of them by hiking along country roads, but a rental car with GPS is absolutely necessary to thoroughly experience this region. Our favorite nearby towns were Alba, Barbaresco, Neive, Fontanile, Moasca, Castelnuovo Calcea, and Nizza Monferrato.

We also spent a day exploring the historic old town in Torino city and an overnight in the seaside city of Genova, but chose to leave our car behind to avoid the cost of toll roads, parking, and expensive fines for driving in restricted central zones. Instead we rode the convenient “Gelosobus” from Calosso to Asti, where there is train service to major cities.

We were fortunate to visit in late September and early October, as we experienced picture-perfect sunny, warm weather (22°C/72°F) in the daytime. The first colorful fall foliage was ushered in by the last several cold nights. Our excursions to Torino, Genova, and the Fiera del Tartufo Bianco d’Alba (white truffle festival) were very enjoyable, as well.

For a relaxed, leisure holiday immersed in northwest Italian culture and gastronomy with beautiful scenery and interesting nearby historic sights, we highly recommend Cascina Luisa!

A quiet pearl in the centre of Piemonte. Casa Luisa has nice apartments, own parkingspace, and very good winearies and restaurants in the neigbourhood. Everything you need for a week of retreat, sun, wine and more.
